Just sleeping. Like the wild three-toed sloth resting before lashing out at it's prey for the killing blow. Leaves are hard to track you know. Here is a handful of the stuff i've been doing. Mostly boring crap so I left the most boring things out of this post but i have been good so far and drawn every day even though my posting might not seem like it. I would say i'm caught up on those 3 missed days by now also. At least we'll say that eh? thumbnails, still life's, and a final sketch. Forgot the cord to my camera so my phone camera will have to suffice for now; hence the poor quality on those ones. Thumbnails and sketch are for a Call for Entries poster with the emphasis being the "Call" objective.

well my new years resolution was to draw, and consequently post, something every day but i'm already behind on that so lets see if i can't just catch up by doubling up on a few pictures to compensate for the past 3 days that it took me to get my junk together back down to Georgia. Here is a doodle i just flubbed around with for 20 min or so. I'll work on it more and maybe get a compensation post in today. Classes start tomorrow so i might get lucky and get a few more from that so we can get back on track.

This is how far I got on my recent final for my computer illustration class. It still needs work but it will do for now. I tried a new way of painting digitally for me which was overlaying over a fully fleshed out black and white underpainting. It was interesting but I most likely won't work this way anymore.

I was very unhappy with the way my sketch for the last concept Tuesday turned out after having rushed the crap out of it. I got lucky this time and there was a second round for it so at least I'm more happy with the way this doodle came out than the last one.

Here is a sneak peak at my next painting. I'll post some sketches and draw offs when i muster the energy to scan them but right now i am far too overladen with cookies and laziness to care about that right now. This WIP started out as being intended for my new header banner but i think i've gone a bit too far already and it's only the first figure so we'll see how the readability is up there once it is all said and done. In the meantime enjoy this angry lil bugger.

I never want to hear the word thesis after I am done all of these paintings. Here are the first 2 of 4 and they are taking forever because I want them to look awesome. They were a little bit wet so there is a bit of glare on the scans but I tried to reduce it to as little as possible. Hopefully the other two turn out well. Right now I am on the library picture and it is like running a decathlon with a brush because I never paint this big. Incidentally I've never run a decathlon either.

so thesis work is bogging me down and nothing is finished yet so here is a filler piece from an elective class i am taking this year called Alternative Illustration Techniques. I took the class because we get to sculpt but our first project was collage'. I don't do collage' because cut paper is evil so i did a digital version and all it had to be was of a portrait of someone recognizable. You may have seen this guy before from a little known franchise. My first collage since freshman year and the ones i did then were atrocious so this could be assumed as more of my first semi-serious attempt. Made entirely out of pieces from the movies. (the only thing to make a lightsaber out of...is more lightsabers. Plus i snuck a wookie into his neck.)

long time for not posting but here are a few doodads until i upload sketches from a bunch of class stuff etc. the first one is from last year for one of the children's theater projects. that one was for the grinch but they didn't have the rights for the image of the iconic chuck jones animated grinch so it was interesting trying to say grinch without showing the grinch. then they found out they had no rights to it whatsoever and it fell through because they couldn't do the show.

The second is a piece for the train station here in Lancaster that has some remodeling going on so they needed art to be blown up to 6' by 8' to cover 12 concrete barriers of the same size while they work on the train station. the 3/4 circle on the left and 1/4 circle on the right of the composition were adjoining elements that each piece had to have so that there was a common strand linking the pieces together like some weird mural. Obviously it had to have trains in it but the rest was open to whatever so i did a period piece on the civil war. It's the biggest painting i've ever done at 1' by 2' but the more i look at it the more i see everything that is wrong with it and never want to see it again. It was a good learning experience though.

The third was for my children's book illustration elective last year. I won't say the story i was writing for fear of prying eyes even though i doubt i will do anything with it for quite some time if at all but here is one of the paintings i thought didn't turn out so bad from it.

So my computer has been completely dead for a while now and i have no idea when i'll be getting a new one. HOPEFULLY within the next few weeks. Right now i am at the folks' house for christmas things so i finally have a little bit of access to updating although all that i can do for now is take pictures with my camera. No scans to be had which is a downer but at least things will partially be updated again on a haphazard basis. Next update coming whenever i take pictures.

Out of the three projects chosen for me to do for a client 2 of them were closed down at the last minute because of copyrights that the theater failed to properly get and the third painting wasn't chosen thus eliminating any hopes i could have had to get published for that project. Boosh. Only one of them is shown here and it's the Jungle Book painting. The rest is just stuff from other classes. There is plenty more for me to post but i'm lazy so this is all you get.

This might be as far as this one gets to go but it was definitely a learning experience. It taught me to not try painting black metal and large sweeping clouds only look good in my head. I'm not disappointed in the result though. It was my first attempts at painting dark metal and big clouds and such so it taught me some thangs.
